10) Public Opinion Overwhelmingly Supports Gun Control
Gun Control Position:
Most Americans already believe in fairly strict gun control, while the vast majority of those who don’t are still in favor of moderate, common-sense propositions like required background checks. Due to the intense polarization in politics today, only the extreme voices on the issue get any attention, but a silent majority in the U.S. would support basic reform.
Gun Rights Position:
In December, 2015, the Pew Research Center found that 43% of the Americans polled said that the Republican party could do a better job at representing their opinions on Gun Control, as opposed to the 37% who preferred the views of the Democratic party. While there is consistent, bi-partisan, majority support for background checks, the GOP platform on the protection of the 2nd Amendment is more popular today with the American public than broad, strict reform.
