8 Investment Mistakes That Will Make You Broke
8) Trending Collectibles
Ever heard your dad say, “I wish I would have saved my baseball cards. I use to tuck Mickey Mantle’s card in my bike’s spokes all the time.” Sure, in hindsight it would have been nice for your dad to have saved his baseball cards in pristine condition for you. However, most trending collectibles quickly lose their value once the fad has passed. If they do retain value, the investment is not generally a good or safe way to ensure you will have a return on investment. Remember Garbage Pail Kids? All the rage in the 1980s, can be purchased for pennies at flea markets across the country. Even the reinvigorated Star Wars craze is a hard sell to real investors. Collectibles may be fun, and nostalgic, and you can sell them in a pinch, but they do not garner the sage rule of investing. Invest in things that will grow your money.Â
