10 States With the Lowest Cost of Living
9) Tennessee
Tennessee is on this list for more than one reason. While the cost of groceries, consumer goods, health care, and energy bills is lower than the national average, it is really the house prices that make Tennessee an inexpensive place to live. In an effort to bring in a younger and talented population, Tennessee offers low property tax, some of the lowest in the country, and does not have state or local income taxes. This has driven a fresh wave of millennials to the state who in response have begun to revitalize cities with boutique shops and restaurants as well as restore several of the historical homes that had once been forgotten.
In addition to its own wealth of natural resources, Tennessee is the neighbor to energy producing and consumer rich agriculture. Tennessee has been able to keep their cost of living down by attracting new talent with the promise of lower costs.
