9) Seven Springs
The 111 residents of Seven Springs live in Wayne County and are served by Wayne County Schools. The nearest city is Goldsboro, an important site in the Civil War due to the railroad junction. Several markers around town commemorate the Battle of Whitehall in which Union troops rained cannon fire down on Confederate soldiers. The Northern troops attempted to destroy the CSS Neuse gunboat that was being constructed on the nearby Neuse River, but damage was minor. The Seven Springs United Methodist Church is another historical site, built in 1874 and renovated in the 1940s.
