4) Baltimore
Baltimore, which is located in Maryland, has not only a high violent crime rate, but a particularly high murder rate as well, so much so that of all United States cities, Baltimore comes in second for this particular crime. That is, in a single year, there were 344 reported murders, and also 4,598 assaults. The overall violent crime rate is 1,539.5 crimes per 100,000 residents, and the city has a safety rating of 2 out of 100 compared with other United States cities. As with many cities, the most dangerous areas are near the center, and the safer neighborhoods are farther away. The safest neighborhood in Baltimore is the area by Stoneleigh and Yorktown, which is in the northern part of the city. On the other hand, some areas which may be prudent to avoid include Sojourner-Douglass College and E Monument Street, Orleans Street and N Broadway, and W North Avenue and Mcculloh Street.
