8) Omaha, NE

Omaha is one of the great gems in our country. Coincidentally, it boasts the home of Warren Buffet, arguably one of the wealthiest and quirky businessmen America has ever seen, and also one of our greatest philanthropists. Omaha sits alongside the Missouri river, as new condos and lofts provide an affordable and scenic atmosphere. Omaha provides the amenities of a big city with the comfort of a small town. The unemployment is much lower than the national average, and with insurers, energy firms and logistics businesses supporting the economy, Omaha didn’t feel the effects the rest of the country did during the recession.

The median household income is just about average at $50,000, compared to the rest of the country, however, the average home price is much less at $146,000 compared to $200,000 which not only makes for affordable housing, but also a much better overall lifestyle.

Omaha provides several music venues, farm-fresh food, as the city is surrounded by some of the country’s most fertile agricultural land, and of course, what is more American than baseball—College World Series.
